landscaping rocks

The person who lived here before used red lava rock in the landscaping. I hate it and most of it has been worn down into the soil. When she moved, she dug up the plants she had planted and took them with her. And now I am stuck with the rocks. She was renting this house from me.

Rake the ones you can out of the soil. After that you will want to either replace the top inch of soil with something more acceptable. Or you may want to till (rent a tiller)the ground and hope mixing the topsoil with deeper dirt dilutes it enough

deb do the rakeing or pay the kids and then put some topsoil or mulch or marble chips on top and punch the holes in for the plants

I’m in the process of doing the exact same thing. The easiest way I’ve found is just a rake. Not a springy leaf rake, but a ridgid garden rake.

It sucks, it takes forever, and its back breaking, but really I think its the only way. Use a snow shovel to rake the rocks into.
